Painting in Provence: A seminar in Vision
Special Opportunities for Artists and Alumni in Aix-en-Provence, France
Opportunities
Artist-in-Residence: We would like to invite artists from our community to apply for a residency to join us during our five-week summer program in Aix-en-Provence to work on your own artistic practice and be a part of the lively community of students and artists. Artists can work in their preferred medium and we invite a diverse array of artists — including painters, sculptors, writers, musicians, and more — to apply. Artists in residence are welcome to sit in on the summer courses and participate in field study trips. The Leo Marchutz School can provide housing for an additional fee. Places are limited.
This is a highly subsidized, competitively awarded residency offered by the Leo Marchutz School of Painting and Drawing to support the work of fellow artists and also to provide students with the enriched experience of working alongside experienced artists who themselves participate in and model a central value at the Leo Marchutz School of the "beginner’s mind," continued curiosity and lifelong learning over one's career and life. We are delighted to welcome applications from artists familiar with and/or entirely new to the Leo Marchutz School community to the artist residency.
Cost: $1,500
Dates: June 21 - July 26, 2025

Alumni Apprenticeship: We would like to invite those who have been through a program with the Leo Marchutz School before to return and serve as a program assistant and apprentice with the staff and faculty. Apprentices will get a sense of what it takes to teach in the program, learn about the logistics of running an art school, support daily operations, and help behind the scenes in the program. Apprentices will work with the staff and faculty ahead of the program start date to define their goals in the apprenticeship and decide together on their roles and responsibilities for the program. Apprentices will be expected to sit it on and participate in the summer courses, attend all field study trips, and fully participate in the program. The Leo Marchutz School can provide housing for an additional fee. Places are limited.
