Testimonials

“I had a transformative experience at the Metropolitan Museum of Art with the Marchutz program. Alan and Rose created such a warm and welcoming space for participants to share their thoughts and insights on works of art. It was a joy and a privilege to spend three hours talking at length about one Rembrandt with such an engaged group of people.” - Caroline Harris, New York Museum Workshop Participant, February 2023

“As always, the weekend at the museum with Marchutz was the most rejuvenating way to spend a few days. Looking at art with the Leo Marchutz School is unlike any other way of looking: slow, careful, thoughtful looking and learning and studying, comparing different pieces and relating them to a reading (provided ahead of time). It's been instrumental in both my painting practice and in the way I look at the world. I cannot recommend this enough!” - Clare Spooner, New York Museum Workshop Participant, February 2023

“It is essential to be still before nature and begin to see/experience its beauty and complexities, using the imagination to 'capture' these elements in our mind's eye. The seminar at the Met allowed us to experience how multiple artists did this through what they observed and felt, and as Pissarro said, how they rendered nature boldly. They took risks in their use of colour and form to allow light to emerge from their paintings (the light they discovered in themselves through the process).” - Barry Hart, New York Museum Workshop Participant, February 2023
